Free State Comicon guest list grows

2011 Free State Freecon
The 2011 Free State Freecon is scheduled for September 10th in Lawrence, Kansas.

A slate of additional comics guests have been confirmed for the Free State Comicon scheduled for September 10th in Lawrence, Kansas. Show promoter Craig Klotz has recently announced six additional creators who will appear.

  • Hector Casanova, cover artist of Screamland (Image Comics)
  • Alex Grecian, novelist and writer of Proof (Image Comics)
  • Chris Grine, the writer/artist of Chickenhare (Dark Horse)
  • Brian Koschak, artist of Narcoleptic Sunday and Star Wars: Clone Wars
  • Jai Nitz, writer of Tron,
  • Steven Sanders, artist of S.W.O.R.D. (Marvel) and The Five Fists of Science.

The 2011 Free State Comicon is scheduled for September 10th. It will be held in Building #21 of the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 2110 Harper Street in Lawrence, Kansas. Admission is $3.00.

Elite Comics plans Free Comic Book Day bash

Free Comic Book DayFree Comic Book Day is on the horizon, and Elite Comics of Overland Park is planning a large in-store event with comic book creators, costume characters, and bagpipe players. Elite Comics owner William Binderup says “This party should be epic!”

Free Comic Book Day is an annual event organized by the comic book industry. Comic book stores across America plan special events and give away free new comic books on the first Saturday in May.

Elite Comics’ May 7 event will include costume characters including Supergirl, Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Halo soldiers, and Star Wars Stormtroopers.

A phalanx of comic book creators will also appear for an in-store signing.

In a unique twist, the St. Andrew Scottish Bagpipe Players will perform an array of music from Star Wars at noon.
