Elite Comics celebrates the new DC 52

Overland Park comics shop Elite Comics is planning multiple events in celebration of the relaunch of 52 titles by DC Comics.

The first event ties in with tomorrow’s release of Justice League #1. Local comics artist Arie Monroe will be in the store throughout the day on Wednesday, August 31st, doing sketches of fans as their favorite JLA member.

Each DC New 52 book purchased includes a ticket for one of 52 prize drawings at Elite’s Halloween Bash on October 29th. Attendees of the Halloween Bash who attend in costume will also be entered in the drawings at no charge.

In addition, Elite Comics is discounting all back issues and all Marvel trade paperbacks at 50% off.

Elite Comics is located at11842 Quivira Rd, Overland Park, KS 66210. They are open Wednesday, August 31st from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.

Free State Comicon guest list grows

2011 Free State Freecon
The 2011 Free State Freecon is scheduled for September 10th in Lawrence, Kansas.

A slate of additional comics guests have been confirmed for the Free State Comicon scheduled for September 10th in Lawrence, Kansas. Show promoter Craig Klotz has recently announced six additional creators who will appear.

  • Hector Casanova, cover artist of Screamland (Image Comics)
  • Alex Grecian, novelist and writer of Proof (Image Comics)
  • Chris Grine, the writer/artist of Chickenhare (Dark Horse)
  • Brian Koschak, artist of Narcoleptic Sunday and Star Wars: Clone Wars
  • Jai Nitz, writer of Tron,
  • Steven Sanders, artist of S.W.O.R.D. (Marvel) and The Five Fists of Science.

The 2011 Free State Comicon is scheduled for September 10th. It will be held in Building #21 of the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 2110 Harper Street in Lawrence, Kansas. Admission is $3.00.

Damsels of Dorkington invite fans to “Meet and Eat”

The Oklahoma-based musical comedy troupe The Damsels of Dorkington have invited their Kansas City area fans to an informal “Meet and Eat.” The group members, Jeff , Blythe, and Rissy, will all be at the event. The gathering is planned for July 2nd from 8:00 – 11:00 PM at Fred P Ott’s Bar & Grill at 6700 College Boulevard in Overland Park.

The Damsels of Dorkington are a regular feature at Kansas City’s Planet Comicon. They last appeared at Planet Comicon in March.
