Seth Peck to sign Fear Itself: Wolverine #1

Fear Itself:Wolverine #1 is written by Kansas City's Seth Peck

Local comics writer Seth Peck is scheduled to appear at Elite Comics on July 7th to sign the first issue of his new Marvel Comics mini-series Fear Itself: Wolverine. Peck will be in the Overland Park comics shop from 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM, meeting the public and discussing his latest comics work.

Peck’s previous comics work includes co-writing Sorrow with Rick Remender and co-writing ’76 with B. Clay Moore. Both series were published by Image Comics.

Fear Itself: Wolverine is Peck’s first work for Marvel Comics. The three-issue limited series ties into the storyline of the main Wolverine book, which is written by fellow Kansas City area creator Jason Aaron.

Peck told Newsarama, “There are a lot of things that will actually be planted in this miniseries that will end up playing out in the main title. Obviously it’s part of the event, but if you’re just a Wolverine fan, I wanted it to be a good story, and I wanted it to have some kind of lasting impact. I didn’t want it just to be three issues and done without really having any ties to what Wolverine was going to be doing in Jason’s book.”

Elite Comics is located at11842 Quivira Rd, Overland Park, KS 66210. The event is open to the public.

KC Fan Con #31, originally scheduled for July 10, has been canceled. Promoter Craig Klotz said he is turning his attention to the Free State Comicon slated for September 10.

“There was a dealer shortage, and concern that the 4th of July holiday would suck up a lot of fans’ expendable [dollars],” Klotz wrote on Facebook. “I’m sorry. I’m putting all my energy this summer into planning the Lawrence show, which I expect will be huge.”

Klotz promotes several one-day KC Fan Con events each year. The free conventions are held at an Overland Park hotel banquet room and typically feature one creator guest with a small number of dealers. In addition, he also organizes the annual Free State Comicon in Lawrence, Kansas – a much larger show with multiple guests, more dealers, and paid admission.

The 2011 Free State Comicon is scheduled for September 10th. It will be held in Building #21 of the Douglas County Fairgrounds at 2110 Harper Street in Lawrence, Kansas. According to Klotz, the initial guest list will be announced soon.

Planet Comicon promoter Chris Jackson announced the dates for next year’s event on Facebook. Kansas City’s largest comics and pop culture convention will be held April 14 and 15, 2012.

So far, two special guests have been confirmed for the show. Stan Sakai, creator of Usagi Yojimbo will return to Kansas City for Planet Comicon. Sakai most recently appeared at the 2008 Mo-Kan Comics Conspiracy show. Skottie Young, illustrator of Marvel’s acclaimed Wonderful Wizard of Oz adaptations, is also on the Planet Comicon guest list. Young’s last Kansas City appearance was at the 2009 Planet Comicon.

Jackson has promised other guest announcements will be coming soon. “We have a lot of additional potential guests whom we are confident will confirm soon,” Jackson said. “Lots of surprises. Lots of new faces for Planet Comicon 2012!”
