Jason Netter, the producer of the film Wanted, is jumping into comics publishing and local creators B. Clay Moore and Kevin Mellon are part of the inaugural line.

The new company, Kickstart Comics, has announced a line-up of projects that includes Bombhead by Moore and Mellon.

Marc Graser of Variety.com reports that the company’s projects are selected in part based on their potential for movie or televison adaptations.

The company, an imprint of film and TV production shingle Kickstart Entertainment, has already locked down a distribution pact with several major retailers, including Walmart, to produce at least 24 new books over a year. The initial plan is to release four books a month for six months starting this fall. Naturally, the books are being eyed as potential adaptations as a TV show or film.

Mellon said on Twitter that he expects Bombhead to be released as a full-color digest-size stand-alone graphic novel.

Kickstart’s other projects, announced under the heading of “November and forward” are Heavy Water by Jonathan W.C. Mills and Alberto Muriel, Mirror, Mirror by Joshua Williamson and Lee Moder, Ward 6 by Kevin Fox and Salvador Navarro, Headache by Lisa Joy & Tim Fern, Maximum High by Mark Haven Britt and Chad and Dara Creasey, and Endangered by Josh Williamson & Juan Santacruz.

B. Clay Moore saves the day for Doc Savage

Writer B. Clay Moore stepped in to create a fill-in issue of DC Comics’ Doc Savage #5, which will hit local comic shops in August. In a recent blog post Moore expressed enthusiasm for the project. “Obviously, it was lots of fun to be involved in the First Wave universe, and I’m hopeful it won’t be the last time I get to do so.” The issue was solicited with a story by a different writer, so anyone who follows Moore likely missed getting it pre-ordered.
