Lee Leslie takes a header

Rigby the Barbarian
Rigby the Barbarian is an epic webcomic by Lee Leslie.

Kansas City cartoonist Lee Leslie has provided the cool new header graphic at the top of the site. Leslie is the talented creator of Rigby the Barbarian, subtitled “an epic webcomic.” The header is based on a panel from one of Leslie’s earliest mini-comics.

Leslie will be appearing at Planet Comicon later this month. “If you know you’re going to be at Planet Comicon, and you know you’re going to want a sketch, please send me an email so I can get started ahead of time. I guarantee if you talk to me ahead of time you’ll get a better sketch than at the show,” Leslie writes on the Rigby site. “That’s just the nature of things. I always draw better sitting at my drawing table in my basement listening to music than at a noisy convention center.”

Sneak Peek: Limited edition prints at Planet Comicon 2011

Kevin Mellon's Space Girl Print
Kevin Mellon's illustration will be one of three limited edition prints available from Elite Comics at Planet Comicon 2011

Jason Latour and Kansas City comics artist Kevin Mellon have provided sneak peeks at the limited edition prints they’ve created for Elite Comics. Nathan Fox has created a third print for the set. The prints will be available from Elite Comics at Planet Comicon later this month.

The theme of the set of prints is “space girls” with a red and black color scheme. “This one really caused me to beat my head against the wall,” Latour wrote on his blog. “I really wanted to go for a classic silkscreen kind of look. I hope it works that way…”

On his blog, Mellon expressed his sense of honor about being asked to participate in the project with Fox and Latour. “I [definitely] feel like the odd man out in a badass sandwich.”

Elite Comics has not made an official announcement about the project. Elite’s owner, William Binderup, said the more details will be released soon.

Planet Comicon is scheduled for March 26 – 27. The event will be held at the Overland Park International Trade Center. Adult weekend passes are available in advance for $15 or at the event for $20.
